Since completing his PhD Pu held postdoctoral positions in Switzerland and France. He then moved to the UNSW as an ARC DECRA Fellow and Lecturer. He was awarded an ARC Future Fellowship right after the DECRA and joined the ANU as Senior Lecturer.

His research interests focus on the fabrication of polymer-based materials under environment-friendly conditions such as mild visible light irradiation and 3D printing with visible light, the investigation of light-induced responses of materials, and the study of the relevant photophysical chemistry.
