Research interests

The southern dispersals of Homo sapiens; the evolution of human cognition and sociality; the dispersal of Afro-Asiatic languages


Ceri studied at the University of Cambridge, doing his research degrees on the Acheulean of India.  He excavated for the Museum of London and in Papua New Guinea for Monash University.  He has since worked at the Universities of Queensland, Oxford, and Cambridge and the British Institute in Eastern Africa; on research projects in East Africa, Arabia, India, and Polynesia, and on periods from the Lower Palaeolithic to the Neolithic.
