Biography

I studied at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand, then at the Australian National University, Canberra. My PhD was on the statistical properties of robust methods of estimation for multilevel linear models.

I have twenty years of experience in teaching undergraduate statistics at the University of Canberra. During that time I also collaborated on quantitative research projects in every Faculty of the University. In 2016 I took up a position as biostatistician at the National Centre for Epidemiology & Population Health at the Australian National University.

From October 2019 I took up the role of Director of the Statistical Consulting Unit at ANU. A restructure in 2021 saw this role transition to the Lead of the Statistical Support Network.

In 2023 I was named by the Royal Statistical Society's Significance magazine as one of 60 prominent Australian statisticans, in honour of the 60th anniversary of the Statistical Society of Australia (https://www.significancemagazine.com/10-news/739-60-for-the-60th-celebrating-ssa-s-60th-anniversary).

My research interests are in linear models and robust statistics; statistical properties of data mining methods; applications of statistical methods to large data sets especially in population health and the biomedical sciences; and innovation in statistics education.
