Alexandra Oprea's research primarily addresses the political economy and political philosophy of education. By investigating the legitimate educational roles of local, regional, and national governments, teachers' unions, parents' associations, law courts, and school administrators, she aims to build an empirically-informed normative theory of public education appropriate for a pluralist political community. In addition to her interest in education, she has recently begun a project on the democratic role of political parties and the morality of political partisanship.  Prior to joining ANU in 2019, she spent two years as a Research Assistant Professor in the Politics, Philosophy, and Economics program at UNC Chapel Hill.
