Biography

Dr Airlie Lawson is Postdoctoral Fellow on Untapped: the Australian Literary Heritage Project at Melbourne University, and holds two honorary positions as a Visitor, Academic, at Melbourne Law School, and as a Visiting Fellow at the ANU. A literary sociologist, she draws on her extensive industry experience to understand, using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research, the material factors that constrain, and shape, contemporary Australian book publishing. Her work has been published in Books + Publishing, Antipodes and The Conversation. She is the author of Don’t Tell Eve (Vintage, 2009), a satire set in the world of publishing, described by Australian Book Review as ‘hilarious’ and selected as a Women’s Weekly Great Read. Her new book, Conditions of Access: Mapping the value of Australian novels in the twenty-first century global marketspace (Anthem Press), will be out in 2024.
