Research interests

Indigenous rights in world politics, indigenous sovereignty and self-determination in world politics, and ethical and cultural factors in the political re-building of societies emerging from conflict.

Biography

He has held appointments in University College of the University of New South Wales at the Australian Defence Force Academy, the Australian National University and La Trobe University, and had visiting appointments at Princeton University, Stanford University, the Russian Diplomatic Academy, Keele University and the University of British Columbia. He is the author of European Conquest and the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: The Moral Backwardness of International Society (Cambridge, 2003); Unspoken Rules and Superpower Dominance (Macmillan, 1983), co-editor with Andrew Mack of Security and Arms Control in the North Pacific (Allen & Unwin, 1988), and editor of Ethics and Foreign Policy (Allen & Unwin and the ANU, 1992). His main interests are indigenous rights in world politics, indigenous sovereignty and self-determination in world politics, and ethical and cultural factors in the political re-building of societies emerging from conflict.
