Biography
Ivan Franceschini is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Arndt-Corden Department of Economics, Crawford School of Public Policy, and at the Australian Centre on China in the World, ANU. A graduate of Venice University, from 2006 to 2015 he lived in China, where he worked as a journalist and as a consultant in the field of development cooperation. His research focuses on labour and civil society in China and Cambodia, but he is also interested in Chinese modern history and literature, as well as literary translation. He has published several books related to China, on topics ranging from human trafficking to digital activism, from labour struggles to civil society. He is also the co-director of the documentaries Dreamwork China (2011) and Boramey: Ghosts in the Factory (forthcoming in 2020). Currently, he is researching the social impact of China's presence in Cambodia. He is the founder and co-editor in chief of the open access quarterly Made in China Journal.
