Biography

Lizzie is an oceanographer based at the Australian National University. Lizzie's research will involve looking at the role of mesoscale and submesocale features in the Southern Ocean on biogeochemistry. This work will use high-resolution models of the Southern Ocean which include biogeochemical cycles. Lizzie completed a PhD at Imperial College London in summer 2023 which focussed on the role of small-scale vertical turbulent mixing in the Southern Ocean on biogeochemical cycles. As part of this work, she used data assimilating models of the Southern Ocean to examine changes in biological productivity and carbon fluxes as a result of changing the parameterisation of mixing. Prior to completing her PhD, she obtained a master's in Oceanography from the National Oceanography Centre at the University of Southampton and a B.Sc in Natural Sciences from Durham University.
