Biography

Professor Bygrave has worked on climate change and renewable energy for 30 years across international organisations, government, academia and the not for profit sectors. He lead teams that designed Australia's carbon price, national renewable energy target, NSW Net Zero Plan, the NSW Electricity Roadmap, ACT's 100% renewable energy target and ACT Net Zero Strategy. He has held senior executive roles in government including as Executive Director Climate Change and Sustainability in the ACT, Assistant Secretary in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Department of Climate Change, Department of Agriculture and Department of Environment and Heritage, and Strategic Advisor in the NSW Government. Between 2013 and 2016 he was CEO of research think tank Beyond Zero Emissions. He has previously been Adjunct Professor at UNSW and University of Queensland, and Visiting Associate at University of Melbourne. His PhD, funded by ANU and Greenpeace, was on village scale renewable energy projects in the Pacific.
