Biography
Anne Brüstle is a group leader in the Devision of Immunology and Infectious Disease at the John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University in Canberra.
Anne completed her PhD in 2008 at the Institute of Medical Microbiology, Philipps-University in Marburg, Germany, where she focused on investigating T helper (h) cell differentiation in the interferon regulatory factor (IRF) 4 deficient mouse. Her major accomplishment during her PhD work was the identification of IRF4 as a crucial transcription factor for the differentiation of Th17 cells.
She spent the following years as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Tak Mak's laboratory in Toronto, Canada. There she combined her experience in the field of T helper cell differentiation with related autoimmune disease mouse models, as well as extended her expertise into different aspects of immunology. In addition, she participated in multiple studies in the fields of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), viral infection, autoimmunity and haematopoiesis.
Mid 2014, Anne was recruited to the John Curtin School of Medical Research. Here, she is expanding her research from mouse models of autoimmunity into human disease with an emphasis on inflammation of the central nervous system (MS). Since June 2022 she chairs the interdisciplinary project "Our Health in Our Hand" an ANU initiative to develop new sensors to monitor disease activity and treatment efficacy in MS and Type 1 Diabetes in colaboration with in collaboration with clinicians, multidisciplinary researchers and people with lived experience.
