Research interests

I have broad interests in in computer vision and robotics, mainly using 3D data. In particular, I have investigated 3D point cloud classification, segmentation and normal vector estimation using deep learning approaches. Currently I am exploring how 3D information can assist in understanding fine grained human actions with the potential of enabling true robot-human interaction as part of an Australian Centre for Robotic Vision project
My reserach interests also include:
  • Computer Vision.
  • 3D deep learning.
  • Geometric analysis of 3D point clouds.
  • Point cloud classification.
  • Point cloud segmentation.

Biography

Itzik is currently a research fellow as part of the Australian Center for Robotic Vision (ACRV) at ANU.Itzik completed his Ph.D in July 2019 in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Technion, Israel under the supervision of Prof. Fischer and co supervised by Prof. Michael Lindenbaum (Computer Science, Technion). The PhD research, titled "Classification, Segmentation, and Geometric analysis of 3D Point Clouds using Deep Learning" focuses on enabling 3D robotic perception by developing computer vision and deep learning tools for processing sensory 3D point cloud data. During his studies Itzik received several research excellence awards, including the Daniel Award for first year doctoral students and the Jacobs award for doctoral students. He also received multiple honorary and consistent honorary teaching assistant awards for his dedication to advance student's knowledge.

Before that, Itzik completed his Bsc. Cum Laude in 2008 (Mechanical Engineering, Technion) as part of the academic reserve program (Atuda). He completed his Msc. Summa Cum Laude in 2015 under the supervision of Prof. Anath Fischer (Mechanical Engineering, Technion), on the topic of "Adaptive Hierarchical 3D Geometric Modeling for Multiscale Mechanical Analysis of Bone Structure".
