Biography

Dr Ahmad has been leading climate change, energy, environment and sustainable development programs, policies and projects for over 20 years. He has a demonstrated track record of achievements in leadership and senior management roles in international organizations (IRENA, GGGI, Future Earth), United Nations, academia, non-profit and public service. Dr. Ahmad is the former Director of East-Asia and Pacific at the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) in Seoul where he led green growth initiatives (Energy, Water, Green Cities and Land-Use) in the East-Asia and Pacific region. He has been the Founding Director of Future Earth Australia, hosted by the Australian Academy of Science, where he led and established the global sustainability initiative in Australia and the Oceania region. Dr. Ahmad has been a member of United Nations expert groups, Government Committees, is a WWF-Australia Governor and on the board of Forum Australia and Melbourne Sustainable Society Institute at the University of Melbourne.  He has a demonstrated track-record in leading engagements with government, industry, non-profit and research entities and developing and fostering strong partnerships on sustainable development. He is a respected media commentator and regularly speaks on climate change, energy and sustainable development at high-level events and has published in these areas in different formats including media, podcasts, peer reviewed papers and books. Dr Ahmad obtained his PhD from the Australian National University with doctoral research in the area of climate change. He contributes to thought leadership and applied research on green growth, energy, climate change and sustainable development.
